Abalone shell was draped around their house like tinsel on a christmas tree. The whole town would always wonder at the spectacle of the abalone shell collector family and their uniquely decorated home. The kids would ride their bikes all the way across the island just to eat a picnic snack and drink a soda pop watching the light twinkle off of the really polished specimens, and listen to the hollow, clunky chime as the wind would blow them together.
Some people said that it just wasn't right the way they constructed entire walls exclusively out of abalone shell, and that it had to be some kind of violation of building and safety codes, but most folks thought it was kind of nice the way they made artwork out of their house, and pretty neighborly to let the young kids come by and hang around ridin' their bikes, even lettin' 'em take a few abalone shell home to their moms and dads once in a while for a present or to use around the house.
